IF TRAGEDY COULD HAPPEN TO WALT DISNEY’S MOTHER, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOURS

We remember Walt Disney as the wonderful man who made us smile. He was on TV welcoming and entertaining our families on Sunday nights. He was creator of some of the happiest places on earth. Yet, he was haunted with the burden that the home he and his brother, Roy bought for their parents killed his mother and almost killed his father. Neal Gabler, in his book ‘Walt Disney’, relays the story of the home the Disney brothers bought for their parents. One of the features that sold them on that home was a wonderful “modern furnace.” As soon as their parents moved into the home, the furnace began to malfunction. Walt sent a maintenance person from his studio to repair the furnace but the repairs were not properly made. Soon after, Flora, his mother died in that home from carbon monoxide poisoning. The furnace was defective and the Disney maintenance person did not properly repair it.

Each member of our management team and many of our inspectors have their own story and is dedicated to keeping seniors safe in their homes.

What we do in the Home Safety Network Program is not just a job; it is a passion and a mission.

WHY WE ARE HERE

This program is in honor of the people who inspired us by living the best they could with as much dignity as they could grasp and hold onto. The program was established to improve the quality of life for those we serve and in the hope that it be there when we need it. You will see photos of the people that inspired us to create this program throughout this website.

UNTIL NOW, CHECKING THE HOUSE FOR SAFETY WAS IGNORED
Currently, many other services are provided to assist in this “quality of life” decision to remain in the home. Programs are provided for home health care, provision of meals, transportation needs, assistance with financial and tax issues, and other areas of need. This is the first national program designed to identify health and safety hazards in the dwelling itself.

The Center for Disease Control has identified home hazards as a serious and significant factor on the health of Seniors and other “at risk” populations. A fall, fire, carbon monoxide or

other event can end the ability of people to continue to “live in place”. Environmental conditions can trigger serious health decline. As an example, mold can be the source of unnecessary medical costs and reduced quality of life for a respiratory patient.

OUR GOAL
Senior Home Safety Inspections are intended to provide the client, occupant, health care providers, home services providers and other responsible parties with objective information regarding the observed conditions of the systems and components of the property. This information can be used to increase quality of life, reduce health care costs, risks to care providers and better direct the care of the property occupants.

OUR GOAL SOUNDS STUFFY
Simply put: We figure out what is wrong and what needs addressed in the home in order to allow people to be safe in their own homes.
